UK Logistics Driver – Roles & Responsibilities

1. Vehicle Operation

• Safely drive vans, trucks, or HGVs to transport goods.
• Follow UK road traffic laws and company safety procedures.
• Plan routes efficiently using GPS and delivery schedules.

2. Delivery and Collection

• Deliver goods to customers, warehouses, distribution centers, or retail locations.
• Collect goods from suppliers or designated pickup points.
• Ensure deliveries are completed within scheduled timeframes.

3. Loading and Unloading

• Assist with loading and unloading cargo when required.
• Secure loads properly to prevent damage during transit.
• Verify that goods match delivery documentation.

4. Vehicle Checks and Maintenance

• Conduct daily vehicle inspections (tyres, lights, brakes, fuel, etc.).
• Report defects, accidents, or maintenance requirements promptly.
• Keep the vehicle clean and roadworthy.

5. Documentation and Record Keeping

• Complete delivery notes, manifests, and proof-of-delivery records.
• Maintain accurate driving hours and tachograph records (for HGV drivers).
• Report delays, incidents, or discrepancies.

6. Customer Service

• Communicate professionally with customers and site personnel.
• Obtain signatures and confirm successful deliveries.
• Resolve minor delivery issues and escalate when necessary.

7. Compliance and Safety

• Comply with UK transport regulations, including driver hours and Working Time Directive requirements.
• Follow health and safety procedures.
• Handle goods responsibly, especially fragile or hazardous items where applicable.

Key Skills

• Valid UK driving licence (Category B, C, or CE depending on vehicle type).
• Good knowledge of UK roads and traffic regulations.
• Time management and route-planning skills.
• Attention to detail and record-keeping ability.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet delivery deadlines.
